Within the academy we study all forms of Theatre Dance, Drama and Performance arts

Ballet

This forms the basis of all theatre dance, this is an excellent way to improve a child’s co-ordination, posture and ability to dance. Whether taking up dance as a career or just for fun this is a beautiful art form and will provide a solid grounding for other forms of theatre dance. Students work towards exams with the IDTA

Tap

Much fun can be achieved as young children can hear the sound they can make when tapping their toes. This soon progresses as the students begin to develop understanding of sound and rhythm and different dance styles. Students work towards exams with IDTA and UKA

Modern Theatre Dance

This is the type of dancing that you see performed in musicals. This class includes both theatre craft which is based on ballet and jazz which takes its style from more modern and contempory dance moves. Students work towards exams with the IDTA

Freestyle

This class is available to all ages within the school and this class is based on the type of dancing you see in the charts today. This is an extremely fun class and there is no emphasis on technique. Students work towards exams with the IDTA

Acrobatics

The type of gymnastics that is taught at the school is acrobatics. This is the more artistic side of gymnastic. This is taught within the children’s classes, an intense warm up is always carried out to develop the suppleness and strength needed to carry out some of the agilities. Students work towards gymnastic exams with the IDTA

This is an exciting new subject which started in September.  It incorporates all performance skills e.g. singing, dance, drama and stage combat along with any other skills that are needed within the theatre e.g. costume, lighting, make up and sound design. The children will learn the skills needed to be a performer as well as backstage skills. Exams for this subject can be taken with Trinity Guildhall. The students will choose at least two skills to be examined.

Students work on singing, dancing and acting while focusing on a specific musical. they also the importance of breathing, diction and vocal singing skills. Members of the class have the opportunity to work towards exams with either the IDTA and Trinity Guildhall. They also take part in productions in front of live audiences

Acting

Students learn the fundamental acting skills including diction, characterisation through correct body language and facial expression, projection and tone of the voice. The will also use improvisation skills and script work to develop skills further. The students work towards exams with LAMDA.

Choreography
